We are withintheatre, an award-winning theatre company and a team of Slavic performers based in London, brought together from Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. Our different backgrounds are at the heart of who we are. Coming from countries divided by borders, politics, and conflict, we have chosen to build something together: a theatre company united by a shared belief in freedom of expression, freedom of speech, and the power of art to resist oppression and totalitarianism.
Our work is shaped by the realities we have witnessed and the societies we come from. Through theatre, we explore what happens when political systems begin to overshadow individual lives, and what it means to preserve one's voice, identity, and humanity within them.
Together, we are developing our own theatrical language: one rooted in our shared Slavic cultural experience, yet shaped by the distinct perspectives each of us brings. Raw, honest, physical, and deeply personal, our work transforms lived experience into theatre that speaks beyond national borders. Based in London, we create for British and international audiences, bringing together voices from different Slavic countries on one stage. That unity is our strength and our uniqueness: artists whose countries may be separated by history and politics choosing instead to create, question, speak freely, and imagine something together.
We create political and social theatre, rooted in Slavic theatrical traditions and techniques and shaped by the cultural and political realities we come from. Our work develops a distinctive theatrical language that brings together physical performance, contemporary forms, and deeply personal perspectives.
Across our productions from our adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984, to Julia: After 1984 and Boogie on the Bones we explore freedom, identity, censorship, resistance, and the relationship between the individual and systems of power.
For us, theatre is more than artistic expression. It is a space to confront difficult realities, preserve voices that risk being silenced, and create a dialogue between our Slavic experience and audiences today.
